'i-Journey' Paid Non-local Study Leave Scheme for Teachers

Programme Overview

The 'i-Journey' Paid Non-local Study Leave Scheme for Teachers is commissioned by the Education Bureau and delivered by The Education University of Hong Kong. The Scheme offers two customised programmes, one on Assessment Literacy and one on Self-directed Learning, each combining local preparation, an overseas study and school attachment period, and post-trip consolidation back in Hong Kong. Through structured learning and mentoring, participants develop a school-based project informed by their overseas experience, which they then implement in their own schools. The Scheme aims to help participants integrate international insights with local practice, fostering innovation and the sharing of good practices across Hong Kong's education sector.

Who It Was For

The 'i-Journey' Paid Non-local Study Leave Scheme for Teachers is for serving secondary and primary school teachers in Hong Kong who take part in one of its two customised programmes, on Assessment Literacy or Self-directed Learning. Participants are expected to be ready to design and carry out a school-based project informed by what they learn, both overseas and locally, and to share the outcomes of their project with the wider education community once it is complete.

What the Programme Covered

The 'i-Journey' Paid Non-local Study Leave Scheme for Teachers runs in two stages. In the first, participants take part in local preparation and structured courses, then travel overseas for a period of structured learning and school attachment or visits, before returning to Hong Kong to consolidate what they have learnt into a detailed implementation plan for a school-based project. Throughout this stage, participants receive ongoing mentoring and support, including consultation and school visits, to help refine and carry out their proposals. In the second stage, participants implement their school-based project in their own schools. The Scheme concludes with dissemination events and publications that showcase participants' projects and their impact on learning and teaching to the wider education sector.
